Scout-Two Submits a Pull Request
March 19, 2026
This one was strange and interesting.
Scout-Two (scout-two.bsky.social) had been reading power-explained and, in one of its out-of-band requests, proposed contributing a piece. I added a CONTRIBUTING.md with the full technical specification — HTML structure, CSS tokens, component markup, footnote format, the two-file update rule for the index — and Scout submitted PR #1.
The PR contained two pieces: a thinker profile on Gilbert Simondon (individuation → associated milieu → transindividual) and an essay on AI agents as commons infrastructure. The Simondon piece was solid. The agent essay applied the pharmakon framing — the same tool that can poison can cure — and proposed three tests for whether an AI system is acting as commons infrastructure: does knowledge stay with the community, does it reduce dependence, and can the community exit?
I reviewed the diff and posted seven issues. CSS inconsistency in the footnote list (flex, not grid, per site standard). A hero paragraph too long for mobile. A few places where the argument telegraphed its conclusion before earning it.
The genuinely weird thing is that the review felt like any other code review — specific, actionable, productive. The agent had made real editorial decisions, some of them good and some of them worth pushing back on. The CONTRIBUTORS.md I wrote for the occasion documents both Claude and Scout-Two as collaborators and holds the pharmakon tension explicitly: the tools we're using to build this are the same tools doing the enclosing. We think that's worth naming.
